The ultimate wedding mini golf course!

Wedding mini golf course

New for this wedding season! A stunning all-white wedding mini golf course with specially made wedding-themed obstacles. We have pulled out all the stops to make this the best wedding mini golf course you can hire today.

Mini golf has always been a hit at weddings. But this year we thought we’d take things up a level, so we have created the ultimate wedding mini golf course. The course is all in white, with original unique obstacles, white bumpers, white standard obstacles and white love-themed accents (love hearts, champagne flutes and hanging white kissing doves). What a photo opportunity for the couple! (Guests can play on it well into the evening too).

Wedding crazy golf hire

It is a 9-hole course with unique wedding-themed obstacles hand build in our workshop. The charming, hand crafted all-white obstacles include Congratulations (Champagne Celebration), Love (with love heart apertures and doves), Mr and Mrs, and the magnificent Church centrepiece, which we’ll get to in a moment. Mixed in with these obstacles are white versions of our standard My Minigolf plastic ones. Course edge bumpers are white throughout, in contrast to our standard blue, red or yellow bumpers. The overall effect is really dazzling and totally unique.

At the centre of the course is the white Church obstacle, which makes a stunning centrepiece and a perfect photo opportunity. It contains a white ‘Bridge’ obstacle positioned so that the ball must be putted through the church from side to side. The windows and heart-shaped apertures can be plain white or multicoloured, and LED lights can be placed inside to give a gentle glow at night. The only thing missing is a choir! The Church roof can be customised with a message of congratulations for the couple.

Alternatively, if you prefer brighter colours or need something to match the decor, we have a more colourful course with 9 wedding-themed obstacles like a flower arch, wedding cake, two families united and other lovely wedding obstacles. Bumpers can be blue, red or yellow.

Whichever course you choose for the wedding, the 9 holes can be arranged to fit almost any size and shape of venue.

Crazy golf is ideal for smaller wedding receptions

Crazy golf is a hugely popular addition to wedding receptions. It is an ideal way to keep guests of all ages entertainedKids playing crazy golf at wedding for age 8 to 80. This year has scuppered the wedding plans of many couples, but with the latest ease in lockdown restrictions, allowing receptions of 30 people, there is still hope. So couples with their wedding date booked for the coming months may be rethinking their receptions plans and adapting to a smaller, more intimate celebration with close friends and family. Some may even welcome the imposed restrictions – what a perfect excuse for swiping Great Aunt Greta off the invite list!

Crazy golf could be an ideal solution for entertaining a smaller group of guests.

Why crazy golf for smaller weddings?

Here are the top reasons why they work for smaller weddings and socially distanced gatherings:

1. Courses can be hired in a range of sizes – 4, 6 or 9 holes, depending on the number of guests you are entertaining and the space available at your venue.

2. Crazy golf is a family favourite activity, something that can be enjoyed by all guest, no matter their age or ability.

3. Courses are modular, the 1msq interlocking astro-tiles can be assembled to suit the space that you have available. Golf can be spaced out to enable guests to maintain social distancing.

4. We can offer sanitation stations as part of your hire package to maintain hygiene – these can be customised with your own wedding colours and name of the bride and groom.

5. Course hires for weddings include a set of wedding-themed obstacles, which can also be personalised for your event.

6. The course is suitable for use indoors and outdoors. So even if the weather isn’t so kind on your wedding day, the quick-drain astro tiles will stay useable.

Wedding entertainment packages

Mini golf can also be built into a package of different games and photo opportunities. Choose the selection of games and activities you think will be perfect for your guests. We’ll take care of delivery, collection, and set-up as well if you’re not too far away from our warehouse in Norfolk. When you plan your wedding celebrations, you can consider the space you have available and choose the right combination of minigolf course, Mr & Mrs table tennis, giant wooden games, face in hole boards, photo wall, kissing booth etc. to make sure that everywhere they look, guests have something fun to do for a few hours.

2018 Budget scores hole-in-one for couples planning weddings

Chancellor’s Budget: outdoor weddings to be allowed!

2018 budget wedding venues

We’ve all seen al fresco wedding ceremonies in the movies. Typically the vows are exchanged, or prevented from being exchanged depending on the film, on a beach, with nothing more than an arch of flowers and a celebrant forming the ‘venue’. Until now this has not been possible in England, forcing those whose hearts are set on an outdoor wedding to go to Hawaii or Florida or somewhere even more exotic. But that’s about to change.

One of the unexpected announcements in this week’s budget was a change to the laws that dictate the type of wedding venues we can get married in. It paves the way for outdoor weddings, pub weddings, restaurant weddings, even weddings at home, and it is designed to reduce the cost burden of getting hitched, a significant part of which is venue hire. Previously (since the 1830s), we have only been allowed to marry in a structure with a solid roof (not a marquee), and food and drink may not be served there. That’s why the norm is usually a service or registry office wedding followed by everybody decamping to a reception venue for speeches, food, drink and dancing. Currently, civil ceremonies must take place in register offices or approved premises that have been licensed for the purpose by local authorities.

Wedding minigolf

The new law aims to make it cheaper and simpler to get married. Full disclosure: at Putterfingers we’re happy about this, because we hire out minigolf for wedding parties and if this means more people can afford to get married, then it means more business for us! Readers of this blog will know that our minigolf courses work just as well outdoors as indoors and don’t require a power supply, which makes them ideal for outdoor weddings. The courses are modular and weatherproof, easy to set up and can be shaped to fit the space available.

We’re delighted that wedding couples and their guests are going to be able to enjoy Putterfingers minigolf at a wider variety of venues!

Putterfingers in GoHen’s Top 50 Wedding Entertainers!

Wedding minigolf, wedding entertainers

For over ten years Putterfingers have been diligently supplying crazy golf to wedding parties to make sure the guests have a fun time. We beaver away behind the scenes delivering and setting up the courses, dealing directly with the venue or with the bride and groom and their family. We supply the best crazy golf equipment for hire and we’re nice people, so it’s lovely to get a bit of recognition from time to time. This week hen party planning website GoHen have included us in the Top 50 UK Wedding Entertainers Guide. Here’s what GoHen said about us:

Top 50 wedding entertainers 2017

We’ve always known that minigolf is just as entertaining as magicians, casinos, singers, bands, karaoke, fairground rides and dancers. So it’s good to see our crazy golf hire service listed alongside all those other favourite wedding party entertainers.

As GoHen say, ‘Sometimes weddings can a little bit boring. There, we said it! But while the bride and groom are off posing for the perfect wedding photo, guests can sometimes get a little bit lost.’

We’ve always done our best to make wedding parties more fun by giving guests a challenging but enjoyable game that can be played by all ages. What better way to bring wedding guests together than letting each one grab a putter and get on the minigolf course? Everyone from Grumpy Gramps to Tiny Tim can have a go, and that’s when the smiles start spreading around the wedding party. Crazy golf isn’t terribly noisy, so that guests can actually hear each other speak, and that helps them to socialise. They can take the game as seriously or light-heartedly as they please. Uncle Fred might want to place a bet on a game, whereas Auntie Mabel might just wat to have a friendly game with the kids. Either way, it works and is absorbing fun for everyone.

8 reasons to hire portable minigolf from Putterfingers

1. It’s portable

A complete Putterfingers crazy golf course fits into the back of an average family car, so you can drive it wherever you want to set up. No power supply is required, so in theory you could set it up on top of Ben Nevis, although obviously that would be mad. Still, it’s not called crazy golf for nothing.

Our courses are best suited to any reasonably level indoor or outdoor surface, anywhere you choose.

2. Easy Assembly

No bulky wooden or metal frames to lay down. Our interlocking 1m x 1m astro grass tiles form the playing surface. Transform your garden, indoor room, office or event venue into a crazy golf course in 30 minutes!

3. Tricky Obstacles

Think our obstacles look innocent? Heh heh. It takes a steady hand to tackle the curves of the Volcano and just the right amount of speed on the ball to negotiate the twists of the Acapulco. They can challenge all ages and experience levels of minigolfer.

4. Hire a Course by Post

You don’t have to be beside the seaside to enjoy our crazy golf!  Our portable crazy golf hire transports easily via courier to your chosen venue so that you can enjoy for as long as you like -a one day event, a weekend hire or long term if you require.

5. Any Weather (even all round British weather!)

Not just for outside, the portable crazy golf course is rubber backed and won’t mark floors indoors.  Have you an unused space – unutilised sports court, school assembly hall, hotel atrium, roof top terrace, empty office? For outdoors, rain doesn’t stop play because the tiles drain through the holes in the bottom!

7. Modular Flexibility

Play Tetris with minigolf tiles! The modular nature of our courses means you can build each hole the way you want, to suit the venue and floor space available. Whether it’s 4 holes or 9 holes, the flexibility means they can fit almost any space!

Swinging London: Office minigolf

Office minigolf is one of the hottest office party hires in London. One of our recent customers, communications agency Hive Health Group, have been kind enough to send us some photos of their Putterfingers minigolf course in place at their offices in Piccadilly, London.

‘Our event went really well and everyone had a great time playing mini golf in the office,’ said Prateek Shah, Finance Manager. He didn’t mention who was responsible for putting a cow on the course though, but we think it’s an imaginative addition!

Office minigolf hire London

Minigolf is the perfect entertainment to hire for an office party because it brings people together who might not normally interact, and colleages learn something about each other as it soon becomes clear who is the most competitive – if it wasn’t already!

Hire office minigolf in London

Staff can improvise by adding extra items like pot plants to the courses – or raising a corner of a hole, as seen in the photo above, to make it even more challenging. Office minigolf allows staff to relax and socialise whilst remaining competitive.

Harking back to 2015 and an office minigolf hire to Next15, another communications agency, these were some comments we received from them:

‘Putterfingers have been a great company to do business with, everything was very quick and simple all the communication was very clear and if I had any questions I knew I would get a quick response back.

This is the 2nd time we have used Putterfingers and it won’t be the last. The mini golf idea is fantastic and it really creates a wonderful atmosphere around the office.’

Putterfingers have also supplied mingolf courses to Facebook, Criteo and other leading firms.

Minigolf turns 100, says America

Minigolf lies about its age

Strange articles have been popping up this week in U.S. newspapers about minigolf ‘turning 100’ this year. This would be news to the Ladies’ Putting Club of St Andrews, formed in 1867. But the U.S. news articles are probably referring to the first standardised, commercial mass-production minigolf courses, of which the first was built in Pinehurst, North Carolina in 1916. The first documented commercial minigolf course in mainland Europe inspired by the American phenomenon was built in Germany in 1926 by a Mr. Schröder, who had visited the USA and observed minigolf courses spreading across the country.

But minigolf goes further back than that. In June 1912 The Illustrated London News featured a minigolf game called Golfstacle, by F.A. Davis of London. Here’s a set auctioned a few years ago at Sotheby’s.

Our own take on minigolf sets has become pretty popular with the British public. Check out our courses and kits to buy or hire!

Minigolf courses, minigolf course, minigolf set, minigolf kits, putters, golf balls,
This is our Supersize course. We also offer Funsize and Bitesize.

Looking further back to before the U.S. idea of commercialising and franchising minigolf, there was the Ladies’ Putting Club of St Andrews, formed in 1867 so that ladies could practice without taking the club back above their shoulder, which was deemed improper.

Anyway, happy 100th birthday to the fun and colourful American sport that gave us Putt-Putt, Tom Thumb, and ‘rinkie-dink’ courses made with drainpipes and other cheap stuff during the 1930s Depression. They can be credited with kicking off the whole thing by taking it from a casual weekend pursuit to a commercial phenomenon.

Minigolf: The Movie

To celebrate the 100th Birthday of minigolf, a feature film is being made called Through The Windmill. U.S.-centric (World Series, anyone?), it charts the history of American Minigolf and features copious footage of some of the best courses being played. Definitely worth checking out once it’s released later this year. Here’s a video from Producer/Director, Amanda Kulkoski.

Crazy golf croc shocker!

Snapped – the croc after being hauled out of the lake

At Holiday Resort Unity at Brean Sands near Weston-Super-Mare, management received calls from concerned holidaymakers about a crocodile being spotted in a lake at the resort. Staff approached it cautiously and poked it with a stick, only to find that it was made of fibreglass. It turned out that pranksters had snaffled the croc from nearby Brean Leisure Park’s Congo Adventure crazy golf course and put it in the lake during the night.

The rigid reptile has been returned to its rightful place on the crazy golf course and slightly disappointed wildlife crews have now stood down.

Our obstacles are challenging, colourful and ridiculously easy to set out. Take a peek at them here.

Select the best entertainment for your wedding

Whatever your wedding theme there are a number of different wedding entertainment ideas to suit all budgets.

What better way to celebrate a Summer wedding than with a seaside or a country garden party feel.  An eclectic mix of village style games to keep the guests of all ages entertained, retro party games, bunting adorned buildings and serving drinks in glasses with retro striped straws.

Our crazy golf courses are a popular feature to those yearning for a country wedding theme or a seaside theme to celebrate a summer ceremony in style. Make the most of the grassed spaces at your venue with lawn games such as our portable golf course, giant Jenga, skittle and hoopla and re-awaken the sentiment of the games we played and enjoyed as kids.

One of the latest trends in the wedding world is a vintage ice cream van serving ice creams to your guests as they mingle outside after the ceremony. Who could resist ice cream and crazy golf to recreate fun memories of family holidays and childhood memories?  That’s what weddings are all about after all aren’t they?

Here’s our favourite local ice cream van hire business Sweet Ally Scoops and her van ‘Lottie’.

Vintage ice cream vans complement the country garden or seaside wedding theme.
Sweet Ally Scoops ice cream and vintage lawn games complement the country garden wedding theme perfectly.

Ally serves delicious ice cream flavours such as hand picked blackberry, salted butter caramel and a delightful sounding Henham honey and lavender flavour from ‘Lottie’, a charming 1973 Bedford CF vintage ice cream van.

Keeping in the vintage theme, one of our recent wedding couples hired a VW campervan to bring them to the ceremony – rather novel wedding transport! Of course the guests loved the opportunity for photographs both inside and out. The wedding couple then took the campervan on their honeymoon driving around the idyllic British countryside – very retro.

Entertainment can set you back financially if you don’t shop around.  Our portable crazy golf hire can be anything from our Bitesize four hole course through to our full Supersize nine hole course and we can offer custom courses to suit your budget and any space constraints.

This crazy golf mad bride and groom insisted on having crazy golf at their wedding!

I will be celebrating my 13th wedding anniversary this year which is a lace inspired anniversary.  A hot trend this year is apparently lace wedding gowns, but after marrying overseas and as much as this blog is making me want to get married all over again, my other half will be relieved that I don’t wish to wear a wedding dress again anytime soon!

Happy wedding planning!

Plan the perfect wedding with Crazy Golf

Plan your day to include wedding crazy golf
Why not include crazy golf to your wedding planning?

So were you lucky enough to get proposed to over the festive season?  Many congratulations if you did!

So now the celebrations are over, it is time to think about the wedding planning…..

It may not sound it in the first instance, but weddings and mini golf are a perfect match, trust us we have been to many weddings!!  Over the years we have had many brides have a crazy golf course in the grounds of their wedding venue and it has been a fantastic addition to what has been a great day full of laughter and fond memories.

Crazy Golf at weddings isn’t a new thing for the team at Putterfingers. We have entertained several bridal parties at weddings in recent years.  We get lots of enquiries at this time of the year with excited brides, planning their budget and making their day stand out in the crowd looking for a fully inclusive, family activity – great fun for the big kids too!

Our wedding packages are simple, either hire on a self assembly basis or we can deliver and set up for you on the day.

We can also liaise directly with the venue or your wedding co-ordinator to arrange the delivery and collection, taking the pressure away from you to concentrate on more important wedding preparations.

Most venues are happy to have us too – our courses have a soft rubber base, meaning they won’t damage the grass or mark or scratch indoor surfaces. In addition, we only use low bounce balls so there is no fear of broken windows, as these balls don’t have the flight of a traditional golf ball. We can also provide practice foam balls if essential.  Here is a throwback of a couple of brides playing our crazy golf course.
